Experience
I have always loved learning languages and teaching them. I offer private lessons to high school students (traditional and home-school), college students and adults in Albany, NY's capital district. . After teaching college French and Spanish for approximately 30 years, I began offering private classses, as a freelancer, in 2013. I can help you with listening-comprehension, speaking, reading, writing and knowledge of the culture. One home school high school student with no previous background in French took private classes from me, along with his mother, for 3 years, once-a-week. We used a beginners' college-level French textbook, an intermediate textbook and a mystery movie designed for learners of French which takes place in Quebec and France. finally we read several short novels, including well-known works , Le Petit Nicolas, Saint-Exupéry’s Le Petit Prince and Camus’s L’étranger. Do you need to brush up on some travel-related vocabulary? I designed a 4 hour mini-course to teach a couple some French greetings, numbers, expressions for ordering food and drink and some helpful courtesy and emergency phrases, before they visited Paris for the first time. I can create a short course to fit your needs or offer longterm classes. Teaching experience: college professor with 30 years of teaching experience; recently taught an undergraduate course entirely in French about Quebec culture and society; tutored adults and home school and other high school students in French and Spanish since 2013; tutored refugees/immigrants in U.S. civics and history for their citizenship test; worked at a language and culture immersion summer camp; studied in Quebec and Mexico.
